The mainspring is the fulcrum of a wristwatch.
It powers all the moving parts inside a watch. The mainspring barrel that holds the mainspring prevents it from releasing tension all at once. When a watch is wound, power is stored in the mainspring to be released appropriately to all moving parts of a watch.
